Even as women shatter the "glass ceiling" in the arts, they are not immune to the ever-present societal systems of oppression. Having a seat at the table does not preclude women from experiencing sexism and racism. So then, what does it mean to lead? And how can women attain and leverage power in a way that's conscientious and conscious? This day-long gathering will ignite dialogue around the meaning of leadership for women—dissecting the mechanisms which allow the systems of patriarchy and white supremacy to operate, exploring gender and race and how they impact position and power, and uncovering the ways in which womxn can work to authentically support one another and collectively create a more equitable field. This will be a candid conversation for women of color and White women featuring an intimate conversation with seasoned leaders, a workshop to help unpack power, privilege, racism and sexism (and their intersectionality), and an open forum to help envision a truly equitable arts field. Open to all those that self-identify as womxn. Curated and facilitated by Women of Color in the Arts. Co-presented by APAP Conference NYC.
